BLURB
I have a story to tell, a story I promised never to tell. Hell, it isn't even one I wanted to live through. I just can't keep it inside anymore... now that they're both gone. I have to tell My Story.

Rachel Porter tells her sons about the love of her life, about their father and about their life together. This novella tells the story of the beginning of the Porter family through the Vietnam War, too many losses and a new beginning. It's a tale her sons won't forget, and one that could change them for all time.

EXCERPT
I ran around the tree, my toes pressing into the grass for traction, Thomas fast on my heels. Giggles escaped me before I could hold them back.
“You think it’s funny, Rache?”
I didn’t get the chance to respond before he tackled me from behind. Thomas twisted us so we landed in a heap with him cushioning my fall. Our laughter died as we both realized the position we were in. I lay on top of him, our bodies fully aligned, with his body most definitely taking notice of mine.
Embarrassed, I tried to roll away.
“No. Don’t.” Thomas gripped my hips and held me in place.
I could’ve gotten up. We both knew that, but still I shook my head. “We shouldn’t be lying like this.”
He shook his head too. “No, we shouldn’t.”
Still, he did nothing to move away from me. Instead, he used one hand on the back of my neck to pull me ever so slightly closer to him. I swallowed down the butterflies dancing in my tummy and licked my lips. He watched me, examined my every move.
When he spoke, his words were a shock to my system. “I’ve wanted this. I’ve wanted to kiss you for a very long time.”
I simply nodded. I couldn’t find any words as I breathed in Thomas’ scent and took in just what his statement meant. We’d been friends since junior high. Thomas, Robert, and I were like the three musketeers. Nothing had ever been like this before. I’d been head over heels since we first met, but he’d never treated me as more than a friend.
To be in his arms right now, to feel his body react to mine in a way I’d only imagined, was a dream. Now that I was living that dream, I had no idea what to do. I was a fifteen-year-old virgin who hadn’t even had a first kiss.
